PostHog Updates Subprocessors and Ad Practices (January 19, 2026)

On January 19, PostHog sent users a short email about changes to their privacy policy and subprocessors.

Here's exactly what they announced:

New subprocessors

• PlanetScale (database on AWS) - currently in trial to improve performance
• Modal (serverless infrastructure) - for running agent sandboxes

Custom ad audiences

• Hashed email addresses of new users will now be shared with Reddit and LinkedIn for more targeted advertising.
• Existing users and product data are not affected. Their privacy policy has been updated.

These are standard moves for a growing SaaS platform expanding its infrastructure and marketing reach.

What this means if you value data control

Cloud tools naturally add more third parties as they scale - databases, compute providers, and ad platforms.
